Owl Fun Day at Winterbourne
Winterbourne House and Garden is best known for seven acres of beautiful botanics, alongside a rare surviving suburban arts & crafts villa. But with owl fever sweeping the city, there’s a more feathery reason to get down to Edgbaston this August.
With two Big Hoot owls tucked away on the University of Birmingham Campus, some of their friends have been invited down to Winterbourne to help celebrate the summer holidays. Join them on 23rd August when there’ll be displays, storytelling and arts and crafts activities.
Local owl experts Hagley Falconry Centre are visiting Winterbourne with some of their favourite owls and will be holding three flying displays throughout the course of the day, with the owls on hand for photographs in between sessions. They may not be as colourful as their companions spread across the city, but they’re certainly more nimble and the chance to watch them in action is not to be missed.
Between the flying sessions there will be storytelling, with some favourite owl stories being recited, and the opportunity for children and adults alike to get creative and write their own owl stories and poems. If you like your creativity a bit more colourful then the stone carvers will be on hand with clay modelling and painting so that everyone can take their own owl home with them.
Based at Edgbaston Park Road on the University of Birmingham campus, this event runs from 11am – 5pm, with prices of £6 for adults and £5 for concessions. It’s sure to be a hoot!
